CSIR’s effect of normalization on net life science score

Life science is the only subject in CSIR net that undergoes a generalization process, unlike the other four subjects. This is due to the large number of aspirations applying under this subject, which needs to conduct the examination in many changes. Since separate changes may vary in the level of difficulty, the normalization process ensures fairness by adjusting the score based on relative performance.

This prevents any change from having unfair gains or losses, eventually ensuring that the final scores are justified in all sessions. The National Testing Agency (NTA) uses a scientific generalization formula to achieve this, with various changes in view of factors such as mean, standard deviations and raw scores. The generalization process follows a percentage-based method to equalize the score in different innings. The steps involved are:

Raw Score Count: The marks obtained by a candidate in their respective changes.
Percent score calculation: The percentage rank is determined in the same shift based on the performance of the candidate relative to others.
Equation in innings: Percentage scores are compared to different innings and mapped on a normal scale.
Final Generalized Score Assignment: The final score is taken using the formula below.

What is a good score in CSIR NET Life Science?
