General Studies

Under this examination, a total of three question papers of General Studies have to be given, in which questions are asked mainly from topics related to Indian Polity, Geography, History, Indian Economy, Science and Technology, Environment and Ecology, International Relations and Current Affairs. The fourth paper is of Ethics, in which the candidate is asked questions from the work of IAS and its duties, honesty, justice and other social points.

In the second paper of preliminary examination, questions like reasoning and analytical, reading comprehension, decision making etc. are asked of the candidate.

UPSC IAS Main Exam Pattern and UPSC Hindi Medium Syllabus

After successfully passing the prelims, the candidates have to appear in the main examination which is descriptive. It mainly consists of 9 papers and only 7 papers are included while making merit. Two examinations are conducted for knowledge of languages ​​(02 papers out of 300 marks, minimum 25% marks are required to qualify it) and the remaining 7 papers are of General Studies and Essay.
