IITM PhD Admission 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Here we have explained the minimum eligibility criteria to apply for Indian Institute of Technology PhD Admission 2024 along with degree and marks requirements in the points given below.

• Minimum degree required: Master’s degree in the relevant subject
• Minimum Marks Required: For general category, minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor’s degree is required. Also minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in Master’s degree is required. For other categories, 5% relaxation will be given in all degree scores.
• Required NET Qualification: Candidates must have a valid GATE score or UGC-JRF/NET/CSIR-JRF or equivalent qualification in the relevant field
• Seat Reservation: 15% for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes, 27% for Other Backward Classes (NCL), and 5% for Persons with Disabilities (PWD)
• Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections: Those EWS members who are not included in SC, ST and OBC reservation programmes will get 10% reservation.

Indian Institute of Technology PhD Admission 2024 Application Fee

To complete the IIT Madras PhD application process, candidates must pay the required application fee. The institute will accept the application for further processing only after the fee is deposited. The fee structure is as follows: Male and transgender candidates from the General (GN), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and Other Backward Classes-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) categories will have to pay Rs 1000, while female candidates from the same categories as well as candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) will have to pay Rs 500.

IIT Madras PhD Admission 2024 Selection Process

Candidates who fulfil the minimum educational qualifications and additional criteria specified by the IIT Madras departments will proceed through the IIT Madras PhD admission 2024 selection process. It may consist of a written test and interview or only interview as prescribed by the respective department. Applicants who have completed their UG/PG degree more than 10 years before the last date of application will have to undergo a departmental test.

IIT PhD JRF Stipend

Candidates who successfully clear the IIT Madras PhD entrance exam 2024 will get a Junior Research Fellowship with a monthly stipend of ₹37,000. Candidates receiving fellowships from agencies such as CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT or DST can avail them as per the rules of those funding bodies. Students admitted to IIT Madras PhD programmes through the regular scheme also qualify for the Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA), which offers:

• To get this assistant post one has to engage in departmental work for 8 hours per week.
• IIT Madras PhD HTRA scholars receive an Institute Fellowship of Rs 37,000/- per month for the first two years and Rs 42,000/- per month for the subsequent three years. Additionally, they are also eligible for House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per Government of India norms.
