Probation Officer (PO): On the other hand, POS, usually recruited through national level competitive examinations, such as conducted by IBP or SBI. These officers are prepared through comprehensive training programs that prepare them for managerial responsibilities. Their roles are spread beyond regular operations, including strategic decision making, leadership and monitoring comprehensive banking functions.

Scope of responsibilities:

  • Later: Indiges in managerial and strategic functions, including policy making, decision making and overall supervision of bank functions.

  • LBO: Eligibility criteria for LBO vary from bank to bank. For example, Punjab and Sindh Bank required an 18 -month experience, while Union Bank LBO made a full -time/regular bachelor’s degree compulsory.
  • Later: Conversely, PO recruitment does not apply such requirements. Candidates only require a bachelor’s degree (any mode), with no prior experience.

Recruitment process:

  • LBO: It is usually recruited through individual bank information, which often includes written tests, interviews and sometimes physical tests. In particular, banks like Punjab and Sindh Bank, UCO Bank, Indian Bank and Union Bank have historically recruited candidates as LBOs.
  • Later: IBPS or SBI was recruited through highly competitive national examinations like those, followed by several selection stages, including initial testing, main and interview.

  • LBO: Operations offer a career path focused on excellence and local branch management. Promotions are usually within the branch level or regional administration.
  • Later: The banking sector offers a structured career trajectory with quick development in senior managerial and leadership roles.
