Women enrolled under the scheme will get financial assistance
A total amount of Rs 50,000 will be provided to every eligible woman enrolled under this scheme over a period of five years starting from the financial year 2024-25. Financial assistance under the scheme will be distributed in annual installments of Rs 10,000, which will be delivered in two equal parts directly into their Aadhaar linked bank accounts. That means women will get the benefits of the scheme directly.
The amount of the scheme will be transferred twice a year
This amount will be transferred in two installments of Rs 5,000 each on two important occasions every year. The first installment will be given on Rakhi Purnima (Raksha Bandhan), which usually falls in August, and the second installment will be given on International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on March 8 every year. More than 50 lakh women have also registered for this scheme. This program has been started to empower women in the state.
BJP government started this new scheme
Subhadra Yojana was a pre-poll commitment of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the assembly and parliamentary elections. After ending the 24-year rule of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the state, BJP has designed the ‘Subhadra’ scheme to empower women. Under this scheme, every possible effort will be made to empower women.
How will the project work?
Registration for Subhadra Yojana has started on September 1, which is the beginning of the cash assistance scheme for women. Under this scheme, monetary assistance will be transferred directly to the designated Aadhaar-enabled individual bank accounts of the beneficiaries. It is mandatory for all applicants to complete e-KYC in compliance with government rules. Upon approval, beneficiaries will be given Subhadra Debit Card for hassle-free transactions.
Who cannot take advantage of the scheme?
Additionally, a subsidiary incentive amount of Rs 500 will be given to the top 100 beneficiaries doing the most digital transactions in every Gram Panchayat and Urban Local Body area. If we talk about eligibility for this scheme, then women coming from economically prosperous background such as affluent families, government employees and income tax paying persons will not be eligible for this scheme. Additionally, women who are already receiving assistance of Rs 1,500 per month or more (or Rs 18,000 per year) under any other government initiative will also not be eligible for this scheme.
When can registration be done?
Registration under this scheme will remain open until all eligible beneficiaries are enrolled, there is no specified time limit for completion of the process. Currently, one crore women in Odisha have Jan Dhan bank accounts, paving the way for effective implementation of Subhadra Yojana and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to women beneficiaries.
