Retirement Age Increase: Retirement age increased, new order issued


At the government level, employees are given a chance to serve up to a prescribed age, after which they are given retirement and posts are appointed for new employees. At present the retirement age for employees has been fixed at 58 years.

In many states, the government is considering increasing the retirement age in their state. In this sequence, recently the government of Himachal Pradesh has made a surprising increase in the retirement age limit by 2 years.

While increasing the retirement age, the State High Court has given instructions that those employees who have retired before the age of 60, i.e. within 58 years, should be re-appointed to the posts. Such retired employees are now going to get a good opportunity to serve again for 2 years.

The government employees posted in the state have been raising objections regarding the retirement age for a long time, due to which the government has now given a direct response on this issue. By implementing this decision in the state, the work of calling the employees back to the job has also started.

Presently working government employees and recently retired employees are very happy with some important decisions issued by the Himachal Pradesh State Government and the High Court. Many states are also affected by this instruction issued in the state of Himachal Pradesh and now decisions on retirement age can be taken very soon there too.

  • Now the employees who have retired at the age of 58 will be called back for employment.
  • The employees displayed at the central level will now be able to serve on their posts for 2 more years.
  • The provisions filed in the High Court regarding retirement will also be followed properly.

Reason for increasing retirement age

In fact, the retirement age limit has been increased in the state of Himachal because recently a female employee posted here had filed a petition in the High Court due to her retirement at the age of 58.

While hearing this complaint, the Chief Justice of the High Court, while issuing the decision under the Division Bench of the High Court, had said that if the Class IV employees in the state have been posted before 10th May 2001 or after 10th May 2001, then they have attained the age of 60 years. Have the right to do government job till the age of 20 years.
