Over time, specialization within artistic practice has given rise to distinct sub-categories such as drawing, painting, and sculpture, each with their own mediums and techniques.

The UGC NET Visual Arts exam pattern for 2024 is as follows:

  • Online Computer Based Test (CBT): The exam will be conducted online unlike previous years.
  • Two Papers: The examination consists of two papers, Paper I and Paper II, taken in a single session without any break.
  • Paper I: This paper is of general nature and assesses teaching/research aptitude. It involves reasoning, comprehension, general awareness etc. (duration of one hour).
  • Paper II: This paper focuses on your knowledge of the visual arts. It consists of course material (two hours duration) specific to the subject.
  • marking scheme: Two marks are given for each correct answer in both the papers. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

    Basic elements of visual arts (line, shape, form, space, color, texture, tonal values, perspective, design, etc.). Understanding the visual principles of composition (proportion, unity, harmony, rhythm, contrast, balance, foreshadowing and emphasis etc.).
