Dearness Allowance of employees has been increased by making several changes in it. And the work of increasing the dearness allowance is being done for many years, this is done so that the employees working in government departments can get the allowance as per the dearness.

Due to getting dearness allowance, central employees and pensioners can meet their needs even in the face of rising inflation. Due to increase in dearness allowance, central employees and pensioners do not have to face the problem of inflation so that they can easily provide their services in different departments without any worry.

Whenever the dearness allowance is increased, the Industrial Workers Consumer Price Index is looked at and on its basis the rate of dearness allowance is decided and implemented.

Whenever new dearness allowance is implemented for central employees and pensioners, its official announcement is made by the Finance Ministry. At present, dearness allowance is being provided to central employees and pensioners on the basis of 50%.

Now again the latest information regarding increase in dearness allowance has been issued. The Union Cabinet has approved to increase the additional dearness allowance by 3% for central government employees and pensioners from July 1, 2024. Due to the approval, the dearness allowance given to the employees has reached 53%.

According to the rules of the Government of India, dearness allowance is increased twice every year, the first increase is made and it is implemented from January, while on the other hand, the second increase is made and it is implemented from July. Whenever Dearness Allowance is increased, it impacts other allowances as well, which include House Rate Allowance, Children Education Allowance, Special Allowance for Child Care, Hostel Subsidy etc.

Increase in dearness allowance so far

12% dearness allowance was implemented on 1 January 2019, which was increased to 17% on 1 July 2019. After this, dearness allowance was increased in 2021, 2022 and also in 2023. Due to increase in dearness allowance in 2021, dearness allowance reached 31%, in 2022 it increased to 38% and in 2023 it increased to 46%. Reaching 50% and 53% in 2024.

Apart from increasing the dearness allowance of the central employees, different state governments had also increased the dearness allowance of their employees, due to which the employees of different states will also be provided dearness allowance as per the increase in dearness allowance. .

Increase in dearness allowance in different states

Chhattisgarh state government had announced an increase in dearness allowance by 4%, due to which the dearness allowance has reached 50%. Orissa State Government has also approved increase in dearness allowance.

Due to which dearness allowance has increased to 50% and it has been implemented from January 1, 2024. Whenever dearness allowance is to be implemented, the government makes an announcement regarding dearness allowance only after some time has passed and dearness allowance for a few months is provided simultaneously.

In the year 2025, the latest dearness allowance will again be implemented from January 1, 2025, which is also likely to be announced and according to media reports, this announcement can be made in the month of February or March.

Dearness allowance merged into basic salary

Dearness allowance has crossed the 50% mark due to which there is a lot of speculation that dearness allowance will be merged into the basic salary but no such official information has been issued.

When 50% dearness allowance had been reached on 1 January 2004, the Government of India issued orders on 17 February 2004 to merge the dearness allowance in the basic salary. At present no such order has been issued.
