There is also empowerment of women under this scheme. There are 55.5% Jan Dhan accounts under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. In such a situation, this scheme also empowers women. The facility of overdraft is present for only one account of every family, which is preferably for the woman of the house. More than 50 crore people have been included under this scheme. About 67% of these accounts have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas. About 34 crore Rupay cards have been issued for these accounts, which give an accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh.

- Applicants should be native to India
- The age of the applicant should be more than 18 years and the maximum age should be 65 years.
- The option of opening a joint Jan Dhan account has also been given for children under 10 years of age.
- Any person can open his Jan Dhan account with zero balance.
- The benefit of PM Jan Dhan Yojana is not available to the central or state government government employees.
- People who deposit tax are also not eligible to take advantage of this scheme.
