Dhatu, an important element of Hindi grammar, refers to the root form of the verb. It can be defined as that part of the verb which is found in different forms of a verb. For example, words like “padhana” and “padhana” are formed from the root “padh”. There are various types of dhatu, such as basic dhatu, compound dhatu, namdhatu, alloy, and imitative dhatu, which present differences in grammatical structure and meaning. Thus, root is not only the cornerstone of grammar, but it also plays an important role in the process of word formation.
What is called metal?
Metal It is an important part of Hindi grammar. This is the basic form of the verb from which different forms of the verb are formed. In simple words, a word is a word that denotes an action or a state and works as a verb in a sentence.

Dhātu (dhatu) is the basic form of the verb. In other words, that part of the verb is called root, which is found in almost all the forms of a verb. What this means is that the basic letters from which verbs are formed are called metals. For example:
- read, Go, Eat, write Etcetera.

From the point of view of etymology or word-formation, there are five types of metals:
- parent metal
- compound metal
- noun metal
- Metal Alloys
- imitation metal
1. Base metal
The original words are independent and do not depend on any other word. For example:
- Eat, See, P etc.
2. Compound Metal
Compound metals are formed by the addition of suffixes. As:
- Eat From feeding
- Reading From read
Compound metals are infinite and include one-letter, two-letter, three-letter and four-letter metals.
There are three types of composition of compound metal:
- By adding suffix to dhatu, intransitive dhatus are formed from transitive and causative dhatus.
- By combining several metals, composite metal is formed.
- Name metal is formed from noun or adjective.
3. noun
The root which is formed from noun or adjective is called noun metal They say. Example:
- From noun: Hand to grab
- From noun: talk to chatter
- From adjective: smooth smooth out
- From adjective: warm to warm up
4. alloy

- go away, fall asleep

5. Imitative Metal
The metals which are made to simulate a sound are called imitative metals. Example:
- toss
- jingle
- to knock
