This time the Railways has made special rules for those passengers who are unable to catch their train due to the crowd. Mahakumbh train ticket refund rule
During Mahakumbh, the Railways has made special provisions for the convenience of passengers. If a passenger does not catch his train due to huge crowd, he will have the right to refund. A brief description of this process is given in the table below:

Refund procedure: step by step guide
1. Contact the station master
- If your train is missed, first contact the station master or deputy station master of the station from where your journey was to begin.
- You have to fill a form and submit your journey.
2. Form verification
- The station master will verify your form and check that you did not hold the train due to the crowd.
- After verification, you will be released a memo.
3. Get refund at ticket counter
- Go to the station ticket counter with memo and tickets.
- From there you will get the amount of refund. Note that 5% clerical fee will be deducted from the total amount.
Refund process on e-ticket
If you have booked the ticket through the IRCTC website or app, you can file online TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt).
Procedure to file online TDR:
- Login on IRCTC website or app.
- Go to the “Train” section and choose the “File TDR” option.
- Select your ticket and choose the reason “Train Missed Due to Crowd”.
- After filing TDR, the refund amount will be deposited in your bank account in a maximum of 60 days.
Rules for general ticket holders
- If you have a general ticket and you cannot catch the train, you can travel in the next train of the same category.
- Traveling in a second class train will have to be fined.
- If you do not want to travel, you can cancel it within 6 hours of purchasing tickets and get refund.
Important things you should know
- Tatkal tickets will not be refunded.
- Waiting list and RAC tickets can only be canceled before leaving the train.
- If you were caught traveling without a ticket, you have to pay the fine.

During Mahakumbh, the Railways has made several special arrangements for the convenience of passengers:
- General ticket booking 15 days ago: Now passengers can book unreserved tickets 15 days in advance.
- Operation of special trains: A total of 13,234 special trains will be run during the Mahakumbh Mela.
