RRB Teacher Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Computer-Based Test (CBT) is the first official examination stage in the Railway Teacher Recruitment process. Candidates have to appear in this test, which assesses their knowledge, general awareness, reasoning ability and subject-specific proficiency. The CBT usually lasts 90 minutes, consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. These questions are designed to assess both general knowledge and specific subject knowledge in areas such as mathematics, general science, vocational ability and general intelligence. Negative marking is applied for wrong answers, where one-third of the marks allotted for each question is deducted. This stage is mandatory for all candidates.

  • Teaching Skills Test (TST): It is an evaluation of a candidate’s teaching ability, teaching methodology, content expertise and presentation skills. Candidates will be asked to teach a topic from their discipline using a PowerPoint presentation or other available teaching aids. The committee will decide the topic on the spot and candidates will be given adequate time to prepare. The duration of the test is generally 15 to 30 minutes. TST is given 150 marks, and has a weightage of 15% in the overall assessment. Recruitment to these posts will be done on the basis of written test (CBT) and teaching skill test in the ratio of 85:15. There are no minimum qualifying marks for this exam.
  • Performance Test: This test is designed to assess the practical skills and creativity of the candidates, especially for positions requiring specialized knowledge like music, arts and crafts. This exam is of 100 marks and its weightage is 25%. Recruitment for the posts like Music Teacher, Trained Graduate Teacher (Music), Trained Graduate Teacher (Craft), and Trained Graduate Teacher (Drawing) will be in proportion to written test (CBT), performance test and skill test. 60:25:15 respectively. There are no minimum qualifying marks for this exam, and it can also be video-recorded for future reference.
