Difference between UGC NET, JRF and CSIR NET

Every year, a large number of candidates appear for UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) and CSIR NET. These assessments play an important role in establishing the eligibility of candidates for college and university level lectures.

UGC NET and CSIR NET

UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) and CSIR NET, both the examinations are conducted twice a year in the month of June and December. But there are many candidates who are confused between UGC-NET and CSIR NET. Actually, the purpose of conducting both these examinations is the same, there is a difference in the subjects included in them.

Both CSIR and UGC are two separate bodies of the government, which have their own NET entrance exams. While CSIR conducts the NET examination for Science stream subjects, UGC conducts the examination for all other streams and their respective subjects.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have obtained at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination from Universities/Institutions recognized by the UGC in Humanities (including Languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Sciences etc. , they are eligible for it. CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria

M.Sc or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/BS-4 year/BE/B.Tech/B.Pharma/MBBS, General (UR)/General-with at least 55% marks for EWS & OBC candidates and SC With 50% marks for /ST. , Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates.

CSIR NET Exam Pattern

CSIR NET exam will be conducted for 5 subjects i.e. Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Mathematical Sciences. Candidates are advised to check the following tables carefully and thoroughly.

Type of Exam: Multiple Choice Questions.
The test will have three parts i.e. Part A, B, C.

JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) Stipend

The stipend for JRF selected through CSIR/UGC NET is Rs. 10,000 for the first two years. Will be Rs 37,000/- per month. In addition, the University/Institute will be provided an annual contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- per Fellow.

The fellowship will be governed by the terms and conditions of CSIR, UGC or the research scheme, as applicable. On completion of two years as JRF and if the fellow is registered for PhD, the fellowship will be upgraded to SRF (NET) and the stipend will be increased to Rs 42,000/- per month for the third time.

Difference between UGC NET and CSIR NET
