  2. Pradhan mantri jan arogya yojana (PM-jay): It is a free health insurance scheme that gives 5 lakh coverage per family every year for serious medical treatment in hospitals. It helps about 55 crore people from poor and weaker families across India.

  • Coverage of ₹ 5 lakh per family: The Ayushman Bharat Scheme provides free health insurance per family per family per family every year. This coverage is available for hospital treatment, surgery and other medical expenses in both public and private hospitals across the country.
  • Coverage of all families in SECC database: The Ayushman Bharat Yojana ensures that all families identified in the 2011 Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) have been covered under the scheme. This includes poor and weak families, ensuring that no one is left behind.
  • Cashless service: The scheme ensures cashless access to medical services. Beneficiaries can get treatment without worrying about medical charges, making the process more efficient and accessible.
  • Coverage for already existing diseases: The PM-J covers diseases already existing from the first day of enrollment, allowing people with ongoing health conditions to treat without waiting periods.
  • Extensive medical treatment: The scheme provides comprehensive coverage, including about 1,949 medical procedures. This includes the cost of necessary treatment, surgery, diagnosis and hospitalization, which reduces out-of-pocket medical expenses.
  • Pre-and post-hospital cost: The scheme not only includes hospitalized expenses, but it also takes care of costs before and after treatment. It covers the expenses of the 3 days pre-hospital and 15 days later hospital expenses.
  • No limit on family size, age or penis: There is no restriction on family members, their age, or gender number. Each eligible family members, regardless of age, can benefit from the plan.
  • Special coverage for senior citizens: The Union Cabinet approved a major expansion of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Janata Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-Jai) on 11 September 2024. Under this decision, all senior citizens aged 70 and above will receive health coverage, regardless of their income, about 4.5 crore seniors, including 6 crore senior seniors, were provided with free health houses.

Ayushman Bharat Day History

Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 September 2018 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This initiative marked an important step towards realizing the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in India.

The National Health Policy was introduced as part of 2017, the scheme aims to provide accessible, inexpensive and quality healthcare to all citizens. The PM-J was designed to face health challenges faced by a particularly weaker population, which ensures timely medical treatment.

Prior to the inauguration of Ayushman India, the Government of India took health initiative in 2008 like Rashtriya Pathri Health Bima Yojana (RSBY). However, these programs had some limitations about his scope and coverage. Ayushman India demanded to exceed these challenges by offering a more comprehensive health coverage scheme, including the harmony of the hospital, digital health records and cashless treatment for the beneficiaries.

How to get Ayushman Card?

To apply for Ayushman Bharat Card, follow the steps below, applicants should note that no fee fee is charged for registration or card download.

Go to the portal

  • Open the official website: https://ayushmanup.in or https://setu.pmjay.gov.in/setu/.
  • Scroll down to find the option “Register yourself on Setu”.

Register on setu portal

  • Click on the registration link, which will direct you to the setu portal of NHA.
  • On the portal, fill the required details in compulsory areas and submit information.

Provide documentation

  • Aadhaar card as an identity proof.
  • One of the following: Aay Ration Card, BOCW Certificate, or a PM/Cm letter.

KYC (Know your customer) process

  • After registering, complete the KYC process by providing the required details and verifying your identity using the Aadhaar number/virtual ID.
  • OTP (one-time password) will be sent to your base-regulated mobile number for verification.

Approval and card download

  • After completing the KYC, your application will be investigated by the authorities. Once approved, Ayushman Bharat Card will be generated.
  • You can download the card from the portal by clicking on “Download Ayushman Card”.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and verify with OTP sent to your mobile.
  • Finally, click download to save Ayushman Bharat Card.
