State Bank of India (SBI) is expected to announce more than 12,000 vacancies for Probationary Officer (PO) and clerical posts in its upcoming recruitment drive for 2024. This recruitment will be one of the biggest opportunities for candidates who wish to join SBI. SBI PO and Clerical (Junior Associate) recruitment exams are two of the most popular exams in India, attracting lakhs of candidates every year. The recruitment is divided into two categories:

  • SBI PO (Probationary Officer): This is a managerial level position which offers immense opportunities for growth within the bank.
  • SBI Clerk (Junior Associate): This is an entry-level position that involves handling customer service, clerical tasks, and supporting branch operations.

The expected vacancies for SBI PO and SBI Clerk posts in 2024 are:

  • SBI PO Vacancies: There are expected to be around 2,000-2,500 vacancies.
  • SBI Clerk Vacancies: There are expected to be more than 10,000 vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria for SBI PO and Clerk Posts

  • Age Limit: Candidates age should be between 21 to 30 years. Age relaxation is applicable as per government norms for reserved category candidates.
  • Educational qualification: A graduate degree from a recognized university in any discipline is a must. Final year students can also apply, provided they produce proof of graduation at the time of interview.

SBI Clerk Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: Candidates age should be between 20 to 28 years, age relaxation will be given to reserved categories as per government rules.
  • Educational qualification: A graduation degree in any discipline is mandatory. There is no percentage criteria, and final year students are eligible to apply, provided they have a graduation degree before the final selection.

Selection Process for SBI PO and Clerk Posts

The selection process for both SBI PO and Clerk posts consists of several stages:

SBI PO Selection Process

  1. preliminary examination: The first stage is an online objective test consisting of three sections- English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. The duration of the exam is one hour.
  2. Main Exam: The second stage is a more comprehensive online exam consisting of objective and descriptive questions. It includes Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness and English Language.
  3. Group Exercises & Interview: Candidates who qualify the main exam are called for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview.

SBI Clerk Selection Process

  1. preliminary examination: The exam consists of three sections- English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability. The duration of the exam is one hour.
  2. Main Exam: The main exam will consist of questions based on General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude.
  3. Language Proficiency Test: For the candidates who qualify the main examination, language proficiency test is conducted to verify the knowledge of the local language.

There is negative marking for wrong answers in both the exams, 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

SBI PO & Clerical Job Profile

SBI PO Job Profile: Candidates selected as Probationary Officers undergo a training of 2 years and are exposed to various aspects of banking, including customer service, loan processing and branch management. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising clerical activities
  • Resolving customer queries and troubleshooting problems
  • Loan Process and Documents Verification
  • Managing cash flow and overseeing cash operations

After the probation period, candidates are promoted to managerial positions based on their performance.

SBI Clerk Job Profile: SBI Clerk or Junior Associate is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the branch. The main duties include:

  • Managing customer inquiries and providing customer service
  • Managing cash deposits, withdrawals and check processing
  • Opening new accounts and updating customer details
  • Providing assistance to the bank management in administrative functions

Both SBI PO and SBI Clerk roles offer excellent career progression opportunities within the bank.

  • SBI PO Career Growth: After completing the probation period, SBI POs can be promoted to managerial positions like Assistant Manager, Branch Manager and further General Manager. Promotions are based on performance and internal exams conducted by SBI.
