Selection Process for SBI PO and Clerk Posts
The selection process for both SBI PO and Clerk posts consists of several stages:
SBI PO Selection Process
- preliminary examination: The first stage is an online objective test consisting of three sections- English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. The duration of the exam is one hour.
- Main Exam: The second stage is a more comprehensive online exam consisting of objective and descriptive questions. It includes Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness and English Language.
- Group Exercises & Interview: Candidates who qualify the main exam are called for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview.
SBI Clerk Selection Process
- preliminary examination: The exam consists of three sections- English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability. The duration of the exam is one hour.
- Main Exam: The main exam will consist of questions based on General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude.
- Language Proficiency Test: For the candidates who qualify the main examination, language proficiency test is conducted to verify the knowledge of the local language.
There is negative marking for wrong answers in both the exams, 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
SBI PO & Clerical Job Profile
SBI PO Job Profile: Candidates selected as Probationary Officers undergo a training of 2 years and are exposed to various aspects of banking, including customer service, loan processing and branch management. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising clerical activities

- Managing cash flow and overseeing cash operations
After the probation period, candidates are promoted to managerial positions based on their performance.
